Hey all,

I'm Ben from London and the Founder of plughire.io

Plughire is a software toolkit for music professionals to enable, build and maintain a career in the modern music industry.

I'm a new(ish)bie to the no-code scene having been messed around by a team of developers who did one over on a young naive creative with an idea and no development knowledge... Probably the best thing that could of happened really, lessons were learnt! 🤦‍♂️

Anyway, my background is graphic design and music production + PR. I studied music technology at University and it was there that I came up with the idea for Plughire, a frustrating experience of not being able to easily network or collaborate internally at Uni, with the problem still there once leaving to work in industry. How do you find work, it's not what you know it's who you know, do I really have to work on UpWork for pennies? Plughire is all about empowering the independent music professional and providing them with the tools needed to build the best career possible.

There's three core parts to it:

1. Display a professional portfolio
2. Build an industry network (think industry specific LinkedIn)
3. Two sided Marketplace - get paid work or hire in for your own projects and collaborate

I guess to put it in title terms it's "A community with professional creative portfolios and marketplace with collaboration tools"

So, building it..

It's early days and this is what I'm here for, education and guidance from you wonderful people on best approaches and practices on getting this (advanced)MVP up and running. I've got stuck in researching and experimenting and am currently looking at building this out with, but not 100% set on:

  • Webflow (am 100% set on, landing site ✅)
  • Circle
  • Memberstack
  • Sharetribe
  • MailerLite
  • Airtable
  • Zapier

I'm aware this is only supposed to be an intro so apologies at the length of this, I'd love to dive into more details about what's doing what, and any potential advice on tools to use for specific features, so hit me up if any of you gurus are interested in bouncing ideas around. As a design and UX guy, my main concern is the flow of everything and SSO which seems to be the biggest struggle / confusion for me.

Can't wait to get stuck into all the tutorials and to share my insights with everyone else too.

Cheers !

Ben 😁
Sound great Ben, combo of community and marketplace. Are you going to join the October community challenge also? Good timing it you are
Welcome Ben!

Awesome intro! 🙌 What's the next step for plughire? Will it be learning more about Webflow to expand your current site?

Or maybe starting a small music industry newsletter would be a good way to start building your audience!
