Hey Makerpad!
I am building a website for a yoga instructor and stuck trying deciding the best builder to use:
- Single page website for now but should be flexible to include an About Us, Pricing and Shop pages.
- Currently need an Instagram Feed, Blog and Appointment Booking(calendly)
- Client will maintain the content and be actively blogging
- Yearly hosting price between $50-$80
Considering these:
1) Webflow:
Pro: Very popular, needs some learning, but flexible and can accommodate all these features
Con: Expensive and added cost for the client to pay every year.
2) Wix:
Pro: includes everything I need. Low cost
Con: Not sure of the output code quality, slow.
3) Carrd:
Pro: Easy to build and edit. Low cost
Con: Limited to 1 page and difficult to integrate blogs and other pages for the future
4) Bootstrap Studio:
Pro: Seems easy to build, Low cost
Con: Not sure if it's limited to the bootstrap framework, Not sure if it has CMS
5) WordPress:
Pro: Many themes, cost-effective
Con: Prone to hacks, slow and a bit dated.
Can you help me decide?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Aparajith

Dorik all the way - cheap and really easy to use. They are adding multipage very soon.

A blog won't be possible with Carrd or Dorik, but those may be the best place to start for a one-page website.
You could consider hosting the blog separately (Notion, Wordpress.com, Medium, etc).
With Carrd or Dorik, check out Ecwid.com to add a shop (demo using Carrd) and Elfsight.com for an Insta feed (example on Carrd).
Wix or Squarespace do include all you need, but they're not my preference and obviously have subscription costs similar to Webflow.

No Code Tinkerer
Used to be a very big WP + elementor builder fan.
But, if I were to pick right now today, I'd say webflow. After you sort out the CMS it should be easy for them to add blogs and they don't need to deal with issues with plugin conflicts etc.Β
If they won't budge on the budget, then you could setup a staging site for your options and have them go through the process of adding articles to see how they feel.
When you add in the shop as a future option it complicates things.Β I've personally never had luck with WP+woo commerce so I prefer bigcommerce and shopify.Β If they are just going to be selling some merch here and there, then I would just push them to a third party site to checkout and just leave the core site for the content. There is an option to go headless FE with bigcommerce, but as a non web designer, it was painful for me.
I've never built any client projects on the other platforms so can't comment.

π #T30 Submitted - Showw.Work - Build your portfolio through Notion templates and an email course
A portfolio is an amazing way to show your work. But we know that there are problems we face while creating and updating them.
We spoke to a bunch of designers and this is what they said:

I created a really basic mood board in Figma yesterday to start forming ideas for the website brand and style. Did not want to go too far and realise that Caard would not allow me to build all of the stuff I wanted to! π

Learning:
Carrd is simple to get started. But, I still need to learn how to make all the functionality work with the existing components.

Β πΌ Completed the portfolio page v1 based on the checklist:
Learning:
The thumbnail images from Dribbble don't work too well for Notion's card layout. Have to redesign them.
Next steps:
Colour palette and styling for the page.

Juggling priorities like everybody else here. So, no updates for the last couple of days. But, I am happy to share some progress π:
π€ Reached out to more users to understand their hurdles in building portfolios
πΌ Created a first draft of the checklist for creating case studies.
π Created the first version of the layout for the portfolio page and the case studies.
Learning:
Notion is super easy to use but I think it lacks in the looks department. After spending a day worrying about it, decided to move on knowing these drawbacks. Will solve the looks over time.
Cheers and Happy Making!
